This is the beautiful & sweet Britney. She works at Up North Naturals, an all-natural hair product company. She is also Lisa's (CEO of Up North Naturals) niece. I've had the pleasure of connecting with Britney & Lisa by way of Christina from Curls and Confidence. I came across a video of Britney communicating using ASL. I erroneously made the assumption that she was deaf/Deaf. However, I learned that she is not deaf/Deaf. I wanted to learn a little more about her and so here we are. Following is Britney's story, as told by her.
Three years ago, I decided to leave a career that I had been in for eight years. I left because I did not feel true passion and most importantly, I didn't feel fulfillment. I began taking night courses for beginner ASL. I quickly fell in love. I then enrolled in a one-year ASL and Deaf studies course. During that time I secured a job with a large well-respected centre for the Deaf in Toronto. After working with the Deaf Community for two years, I decided I wanted to become involved in interpreting. Last month, I began an ASL/English interpreting course, I am nervous and excited, all at the same time.
Britney's story is brief, but there are many lessons to be learned. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. Britney could have easily chosen comfort over change when it came to a job that no longer brought her joy. Instead, she took a leap of faith and found that she has the desire and the talent to do something that truly fulfills her and others. Don't ever be afraid to change your mind and take another route. You won't know what you can accomplish unless you try.
Britney: I have no doubt that you will go very far and that you will have a huge impact in the lives of many. You've already impacted my life.
